ENGLISH DIALECTS

As we have studied, a dialect is a variation of a language. Dialects have more to do with geographical circumstances than by social facts. A dialect is created by people who more away from the original region and get in contact with people from another region.
In this course, we studied dialects by reading, doing research, and group presentations and discusions. The material used in this section has been organized as shown below:

  1. Power Point Presentation: "Dialects of English".
  2. Power Point Presentation: "African American Vernacular English".
  3. Group Presentations: Scottish, Australian, Jamaican, Canadian, Northern American, Southern American, Irish, and British English Dialects.
  4. Study Guide: "World English".
  5. Reading Chapter: Lexical Variation and Change.
  6. Listening Activity Transcription: "Accent, Dialect and The School"
